The 13th stage of the "pink race" passes through the Aosta Valley: departure from Borgofranco d'Ivrea and arrival in Crans-Montana via the Gran San Bernardo pass which will be the Cima Coppi of the 2023 edition, the highest point, by altitude, reached by cyclists during the Giro.
From Pont-Saint-Martin the stage proceeds towards Bard, at the foot of the famous fort, and then again along the valley floor touching Saint-Vincent, Châtillon, Nus to arrive at the regional capital, Aosta. From here the route climbs along the Gran San Bernardo valley until it reaches the pass.
The route of this stage, for a total of 207 km, has a classic alpine configuration: a flat approach, slightly uphill, followed by a series of very long climbs interspersed with short flat sectors, typical of the U-shaped valleys of the western Alps, to culminate at the 2,469 meters of the Gran San Bernardo hill.
Cyclists will pass through Aosta, Bard, Chambave, Chatillon, Etroubles, Gignod, Montjovet, Nus, Pont-Saint-Martin, Saint-Rhémy-En-Bosses, saint-Vincent, Verrès.
