PARTISAN'S CHAPEL

Amay
Located on the way to Col de Joux and not far from the hameu of Amay, it was built in the 1950 by order of Commander Edoardo Page who, during the Second World War, had been the head of the 17th Matteotti Brigade.
During the years of Liberation, many young partisans of Saint-Vincent who died in the fighting were buried in this location and it is right near that cemetery, after the war, that the chapel was built.
With its truncated cone section bell tower, the massive and austere temple presents a graceful harmony of forms. Full of meaning is the fresco by Lucio Bulgarelli, "Libertà 1961" symbolizes peace.
In 1995, on the occasion of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Resistance, Liberation and Autonomy, a plaque was placed in the park in front of the chapel commemorating the arrest of Primo Levi, Vanda Maestro and Luciana Nissim, which took place in Amay on December 1943, which ended with the deportation of the three to the Auschwitz extermination camp.
